Remote Sensing

Introduction

GPS handhelds are great when they work. However, they need a clear view of a large area of the sky to get a "fix". Here at HSU, and in many areas around the world, this is hard to come by either because you are in a canyon, have a lot of tree cover, or both. In these cases, we need to get creative and find other solutions to get good spatial data.

By the end of this lab, you should be able to:

• Describe the various remotely senesed methods and sensors
• Describe the type of information that remotely sensed data can provide and its limitations
• Describe the elements of the electromagnetic spectrum
• Describe the process used from collection through delivery for remotely sensed data
• Create an "Index Raster" from an original remotely sensed image
